Rationale
Our aim is to provide an original, exclusive and warm welcome to all of our guests and we would be grateful to receive any information to help us achieve that either prior or during a visit. This statement is to address some of the common questions and issues that may occur with anyone who visits us at Swineshead Hall.
General
Swineshead Hall is a large, mainly Victorian, family House standing in large gardens of approximately one and three quarter acres. Primarily used for private residential purposes, there are three reception rooms on the ground floor; the dining room and drawing room can be made available for small functions such as afternoon tea, morning coffee, lunch, dinner or meetings. Two of our bedrooms are available for overnight guests. All bedrooms are only accessible by stairs and there are further stairs down to one of the ensuite bathrooms, which is in the older part of the house. The bedrooms and bathrooms are not suited to wheelchair users. As this is a family home, there are rarely times when access is unavailable.
Where to find us
Swineshead is situated approximately 10 miles from Boston, near the junction of A17 and A52. Swineshead Hall is very near to the centre of the village, opposite the post office. For those with sat nav, our postcode is PE20 3LH. The nearest train stations are Swineshead Bridge (2 miles), Boston (6 miles) or Grantham (24 miles). The main bus station is in Boston and there is a bus stop outside the church in the centre of the village.
Car Access
Swineshead Hall has a large drive with ample parking for visitors. The drive is worn in places and although there is some lighting close to the house, caution, particularly at night, is advised. The entrance to the drive is through wrought iron gates and caution is advised when driving through these.
Pedestrian Access
There are three entrances to Swineshead Hall from the road, including the entrance used for vehicles. The two gates used for pedestrian access are very old cast iron gates that are one step down from the footpath. These are sometimes closed for security although they may be pushed open. If guests require any help with gates, we are always available to give it. When we are expecting guests who have pre-booked, the gates are left open to help ease access.
The main entrance is through the front doors, via two stone steps. We are only too happy to provide help for guests up or down the steps or a ramp or, if needed, for wheelchairs although this has not been required by any of our disabled guests to date. There are two double doors that can all be opened if required.
Dining Room
The dining room is located on the ground floor near the entrance and is accessed via the original wide Victorian door. All seating and tables are moveable and arranged according to guests’ needs. There are double French doors out to the terrace via steps. Guests with wheelchairs would require assistance when using these doors. Waiter service is provided as needed.
Drawing Room
The Drawing Room is located on the ground floor and is accessed via the original wide Victorian door. Moveable sofas and armchairs provide flexibility in how this space is used and can be altered according to guests’ needs.
Toilets
There is a toilet on the ground floor down one step with which wheelchair users would require help. Although the room is narrow and access restricted, it is possible for guests in wheelchairs to use the toilet with help.
There is another toilet on the first floor, only accessible by stairs.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Swineshead Hall has nine bedrooms, three of which are ensuite and a large family bathroom. Five of the bedrooms are situated on the first floor and a further four bedrooms on the second floor accessed by steep stairs. Two of the bedrooms on the first floor are for guests. Both are fully ensuite, one with a separate shower and bath and one with a large bath. We do not have adapted bathrooms or grab rails.
Garden
The garden has a large number of mature trees that are part of valued conservation area in the village. Every effort is taken to ensure that drives and pathways are kept clear of overhanging branches that could cause a hazard to pedestrians but caution is advised whilst in the garden. As a consequence of moles, there are some uneven areas on the lawns and caution is advised here too.
Access is either from the front garden via three large wide steps although for those who have mobility scooters, we can provide access through the garden via large double gates at the end of the drive as this is all on one level. As there are, however, uneven surfaces on the lawn, caution is advised.
